Welcome to Bike Miami Valley

Our Mission/Vision/Goals     Facilities Committee

What is Bike Miami Valley? Bike Miami Valley is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to promoting, enabling and creating safe bicycling for recreation and transportation in a 10-county region known as the Miami Valley in southwestern Ohio. We are located in Dayton, Ohio.

The original organization, Miami Valley Regional Bicycle Council, was founded in 1965 by Horace Huffman Jr., chairman and CEO of the Huffy Bicycle Corporation, and has been instrumental in planning the bike paths that we now enjoy around the area.

Throughout the years, Bike Miami Valley has distributed bicycling maps, tour guides, magazines and safety brochures. We have also created the Ohio Bicycle Federation, held seminars, organized bicycle tours, and were instrumental in having bike racks placed on buses. Thousands have enjoyed our Bike Week/Bike Month and Bike-To-Work events.

Over the years, we have distributed over $750,000 in grants to various Miami Valley organizations to promote cycling. These grants have assisted in establishing the 150 miles of bikeways we can now ride throughout the Miami Valley. Additionally, we have raised over $4,900,000 for Miami Valley charities through our Thunder Road Bike-A-Thon from 1977 - 1999..

Our network of bike paths is growing every year. In 1999, Xenia Station, a regional cycling hub, was opened in Xenia, Ohio, as well as miles of new bike paths. We are your one-stop cycling headquarters for the Miami Valley! Please use and enjoy this resource.

What resources do we have in Southwest Ohio?
This portion of Ohio is blessed with large and growing physical resources for cycling. For example the Ohio Field Office of the Rails-To-Trails Conservancy   says:

"The Greater Miami Valley Regional Trails System. The 300-mile Greater Miami Valley Trails System is fast becoming one of the most dynamic trail networks in the country. This network of trails will connect Xenia, Dayton, Hamilton, Springfield, Wilmington, Washington Court House and dozens of other vibrant communities."

This 300 mile Greater Miami Valley Trails System is being created by the previously mentioned counties in cooperation with the Rails-To-Trails Conservancy using funds from the Federal Highway Law. More trails are being built and dedicated each year.
