Bike Trails in
the Miami Valley
Cyclists (as well as walkers, in-line skaters and runners) need a
good place to walk, run, skate and ride. The Miami Valley is rapidly building a network of
Rail-Trails. These trails are old abandoned railroad right-of-ways that are being
converted into smooth, safe, traffic free and family friendly places for you to get
outside. Our sister Web Site the Miami
Valley RailTrails has additional information about these trails
including trail reviews by those who have ridden them! See below.
Montgomery County
Trails
- Creekside Trail
See below.
The trail is now complete through Montgomery County to Eastwood MetroPark. Now you can
bike from Xenia Station in Greene County to downtown Dayton, in Montgomery County.
North Miami Bikeway
The trail will start in
Taylorsville MetroPark and extend South along the Great Miami River to Triangle Park
North of downtown where it will connect to the River Corridor Bikeway. Along the way a
spur may be provided to Huber Heights at the Canal Locks Park.
The next section is planned for construction in 2001.

- River
Corridor Bikeway (paved) 22.6 miles -
This
trail extends on both sides of the Great Miami River in downtown Dayton, Ohio. The trail
starts at Sinclair Park in Harrison Township North of Dayton on the East side of the
River. At the Helena Street Bridge the trail is on both sides of the River as far South as
Stewart Street. At that point the trail continues on the East bank through West
Carrolltown to Miamisburg to Crains Run Park near the Montgomery/Warren County line where
it currently ends.
- Wolf Creek
Rail Trail (paved) 13 miles- Starts at the Train Station in Trotwood and
extends Northwest through Brookville to Verona.
- Mad River
Trail (to River Corridor
Bikeway, paved) 3 miles - Starts at Eastwood
MetroPark in Riverside and extends West to connect with the River Corridor Bikeway
in downtown Dayton.
Please Note: Due to heavy rain in North Dayton, there is a chance the
bikeway along the new RiverScape will be flooded. Contact Five Rivers MetroParks
for updates.
- The Great
Connection (In planning) will connect the River Corridor Bikeway south
along the Great Miami River through Warren and Butler counties to Hamilton to join an
existing 3/6 mile trail. This new trail is being develop by the Miami Conservancy District.
- The
T-Connector A bridge to be built to connect the Kaufmann Avenue Trail
to Dayton and Xenia.
Greene County Trails
- Xenia
Station Located on South Detroit Street, about
one mile south of the
Clarke County Courthouse, the Xenia Station has been labeled "The Hub Of It
All." This is so because five current or planned trails fan out
from it in all directions. The Little Miami Scenic Trail stretches north to Springfield
and south to Milford, outside Cincinnati. The Creekside Trail runs West into Montgomery County
ultimately to connect to downtown Dayton via Eastwood MetroPark. The Cedarville Trail now
finished to Cedarville, will be extended to London, Columbus and ultimately to Cleveland
and Lake Erie. Finally an Xenia-Jamestown Connector will run Southeast to Washington Court
House to join the Tri-County Triangle Trail being developed there.
- Kauffman
Avenue Bikeway (paved) 4.7
miles - Extends along Kauffman Avenue in Fairborn
past Wright State University to the Wright Brothers Memorial.
- Little
Miami Scenic Trail (paved) 72
miles - Starts in Springfield, Ohio and ends in Milford (near Cincinnati); the trail passes through Xenia at the Xenia
Station where connections East to Dayton via the Creekside Trail, and Northeast to
Cedarville (ending to Columbus in the near future) as well to the Southeast to Washington
Courthouse to meet with the Tri-County Triangle Trail.
- Cedarville
Trail (paved) 9 miles - Currently extending from the Xenia Station in downtown
Xenia to Cedarville this trail and the Little Miami Scenic Trail make up a portion of what
is known as the Ohio-To-Erie Trail. This ambitious undertaking, planned to be completed by
the year 2003, will be at 325 miles the longest rail-trail in the country. It will extend
from the Ohio River at Cincinnati extend up the Little Miami Scenic Trail to Xenia, and
travel to Cedarville, London, Akron and Cleveland via the Cuyahoga National Forest's
Towpath Trail.
- Creekside
Trail (AKA H-Connector) This east-west path extends from the
Montgomery/Greene County line in Beavercreek to Xenia. The trail parallels State Route 35
from Dayton to Xenia.. The trail is on the north side of 35; Perhaps you've
noticed it from your car. You can park at 5/3 Gateway Park, Dayton-Xenia Rd.,
Beavercreek (located near the I-675-U.S. 35 interchange); Nutter Park, 865 Factory Road,
Beavercreek; and the Xenia Station, trail complex located between Detroit St. and
Cincinnati Ave. in Xenia. The Montgomery County section of the Creekside Trail
extends
west from the Greene/Montgomery County line to near Woodman Drive. There it meets the
north-south trail from Eastwood MetroPark. South to Woodbine Road it
enters the park via the Springfield Street park entrance (under the Conrail railroad
tracks) and be routed onto existing surface streets within the park to connect to the Mad
River Trail.

- Buck
Creek Trail - The trail is finished from Old Reid Park near
Buck Creek State Park to Veteran's Park in downtown Springfield.
