Below are several excellent national bicycling organizations highly endorsed by Bike Miami Valley.

Ohio State Bicycling Organizations

 

League Of American Bicyclists. Promotes cycling for fun, fitness and transportation, and works through advocacy and education for a more bicycle-friendly America. Membership includes 35,000 individuals, 450 recreational clubs, and 45 state and local advocacy organizations. 

 

Bikes Belong! A membership organization founded by bicycle industry leaders with the mission of "putting more people on bikes more often through the implementation of TEA-21".


National Center for Bicycling & Walking (formerly Bicycle Federation of America). For 21 years, the NCBW has been working for more bicycle-friendly and walkable communities. The NCBW offers information support, training, consultation services and resources to public agencies, non-governmental organizations and advocates, maintains the Internet Support Center and organizes the biennial Pro Bike/Pro Walk Conference and other special meetings.  


United States Cycling Federation (USCF). Governs competitive road and track cycling in the U.S. 

 

Association of Pedestrian & Bicycle Professionals. Founded in 1995, ABPB promotes excellence in the emerging professional discipline of pedestrian and bicycle transportation. Its members include leaders in the engineering, planning, landscape architecture, safety and promotion fields who specialize in improving conditions for bicycling and walking.

 

International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA). Promotes mountain biking opportunities through environmentally and socially responsible use of the land. 


National Off-Road Biking Association (NORBA). Offers off road racing opportunities to members of all abilities, by sanctioning mountain bike events nationwide. 


Adventure Cycling Association. A organization for bike touring and biking vacations. The mission is to encourage individuals to use the bicycle for exploration, discovery and adventure. Membership includes more than 40,000. 


Adventure Sports Online Bicycle Club Directory.  Lists of bicycle clubs, Road Tandem and Mountain biking.


Rails-To-Trails Conservancy. This organization is dedicated to crating a nationwide network of public trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. 


Rails-To-Trails Conservancy, Ohio Field Office. Plays a leading role in converting Ohio’s abandoned railroad corridors into trails for bicycling. 

 

Thunderhead Alliance. A national coalitions of organizations advocating for bicyclists. Their mission is increasing the capacity--funding, membership and strategic ability--of state and local bicycle advocacy organizations and representing bicyclists interests at the federal level. 

 

Transportation Alternatives. A powerful New York City-based advocate group which steps up for bicyclists, walkers and promotes sensible transportation. 

 

National Resources Defense Council. NRDC uses law, science, and the support of more than 400,000 members nationwide to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. Ultimately, NRDC strives to help create a new way of life for humankind, one that can be sustained indefinitely without fouling or depleting the resources that support all life on Earth.

 

Worldwatch Institute. The Worldwatch Institute is dedicated to fostering the evolution of an environmentally sustainable society--one in which human needs are met in ways that do not threaten the health of the natural environment or the prospects of future generations.

 

Bicycling Life. This site focuses on the good news about bicycling as a means of transportation and recreation in everyday life. 

 

Yellow Bike Coalition. A non-profit organization dedicated to transforming recycled bicycles into a fun, economical, environmentally friendly transportation alternative for Minneapolis-St. Paul residents and businesses.

 

Trips For Kids. A non-profit that provides mountain bike outings and environmental education for kids in who would not otherwise be exposed to such activities. At our outings, we teach lessons in personal responsibility, achievement and environmental awareness through the simple act of having fun.

 

Center for Disease Control & Prevention - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recognized as the lead federal agency for protecting the health and safety of people - at home and abroad, providing credible information to enhance health decisions, and promoting health through strong partnerships. CDC serves as the national focus for developing and applying disease prevention and control, environmental health, and health promotion and education activities designed to improve the health of the people of the United States. CDC, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Jeffrey P. Koplan is the Director.
