bikesq1.jpg (3369 bytes)    Easy to use bike racks are available on RTA buses routed specifically to provide bicyclists with convenient transportation to work, local bikeways and universities.

Loading your bicycle is easy

1. Remove any loose items and tell the driver that you wish to use the bicycle rack before loading your bicycle. As a safety precaution, please wait to load your bicycle until receiving permission from the driver.

Each light-weight rack conveniently holds two bicycles and can be used in just seconds.

Availability

RTA bus bike rack service is now available year round on most RTA buses. Bike rack service is scheduled on the following routes, but will become even more available as the RTA takes delivery of new rack-equipped electric trolley buses.

Weekday: Routes 9, 12-20, 22 23, 24, 40, 41, 42;   Saturday, Sunday, Holiday: 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 12-20, 22, 23, 24

2. If there are no bicycles already on the rack, lower the rack by squeezing the release handle at the top center of the rack.

3. Look for markings on the rack indicating the position for the front tire of the bicycle. Always load from the curb side of the bus by placing a single bicycle or the first of two bicycles in the position closest to the bus. The first bicycle faces the street.

Unloading your bicycle is easy

1. Please exit through the front door of the bus and tell the driver that you will be unloading your bicycle. As a safety precaution, please wait until receiving the driver's permission and always unload your bicycle to the curb.

2. Simply pull up on the "J-hook," lower it out of the way until it makes contact with the magnetic fastener and lift your bicycle out of the wheel wells.

3. If there are no bicycles remaining in the rack, please fold the rack back into its stored position. Thank you for riding the RTA.

Using RTA bike racks

RTA bike rack service is provided as a benefit for our customers. Anyone may use the rack at his or her own risk. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. RTA  riders are responsible for loading and unloading the bike rack and for keeping an eye on their bicycles. Bicycles must be properly secured to prevent hazards to RTA passengers or buses.

For more information about using bike racks on RTA buses, please call the RTA RideLine at 226-1144.
