Dear bicycling enthusiast:

 

Bike Miami Valley is one of a small handful of non-governmental, multi-jurisdictional nonprofit bicycle advocacy groups in the United States not subsidized by local, state, or federal government money. We chose our multi-jurisdictional status to be a more independent, organic group devoted to the cause of what we call “creating opportunities.” Since the mid 1970s we’ve assisted area engineers, architects, planners and advisory committees with raising funds to build, protect and improve over 200 miles of bike trails and bike routes in the Miami Valley. And even more is planned.

 

Recently, our board has discussed several strategic initiatives to make a difference in the bicycling community: (1) designing a comprehensive bikeway map with MetroParks and the Miami Conservancy District; (2) updating our bicycle commuter-friendly “shadow route” map with the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and the RTA; and (3) working with local politicians to make our streets safer for bicycling and push bicycle-friendly bills through the Senate and Congress.

 

As you see, we’re ambitious. Our 38-year track record speaks for itself, and that’s why we’ve written this letter to let you know what we’re doing behind the scenes to make the Miami Valley a shining example to the world. Xenia Station, RiverScape, and several other bicycle-friendly facilities are popping up throughout the region, and it takes vision, planning, sweat equity, money and perseverance to create more and maintain the current.
